"And all Israel heard of the judgement that the king rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice."
~1 Kings 3:28
The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this Man!”
~John 7:46
Consider King Solomon, the son of David: We are told that He loved the LORD, offered many offerings and sacrifices to the LORD regularly, and when given the opportunity, asked the LORD not for material gain but for wisdom and discernment, and He spoke and judged with a wisdom that was clearly perceived to be Divine wisdom. Yet for all his wisdom, his heart eventually turned away from the true God and went after idols of wood and stone.
Now consider the greater Son of David King Jesus: He truly loved the LORD His God with all His heart, soul, mind and strength, He always sought to do His Father's will for His Father's glory alone (John 4:34), and when He spoke crowds were amazed by His gracious words (Luke 4:22), scribes astonished at His wisdom and unable to trap Him (Mark 12:17), and even His enemies fell down as they came to arrest Him being shaken by the authoritative power of His words (John 18:6)!
And what shall we say of His justice? Did He not truly know what was in every man's heart (John 2:25)? He truly judged people in righteousness and grace. The teachers of the law brought their most complex legal questions and were met with holy Wisdom from the One who is "greater than Solomon" (Matthew 12:42).
Blessed be our Lord and our Saviour Jesus Christ, who being infinitely wise as the Architect of the universe, chose the foolishness of the cross (1 Corinthians 1:18) to redeem us utterly foolish criminals in accordance with the wisdom of God's foreordained plan. Let us who were the foolish things of the world, having been regenerated in Christ, offer all of our wisdom and learning, and like the hymn writer truthfully say:
"Take my intellect and use,
Every power as Thou shalt choose."
