"...Yes, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend..."
~Song of Solomon 5:16

What shall I liken Christ to? He is like the most fragrant Rose of Sharon (Song of Solomon 2:1) whose scent perfumes the summer's air. Every one of its petals, His pleasant attributes. His goodness is the sweetest nectar within this Flower.
What else shall I liken Him to? A most intricately patterned work of embroidery. Every strand, His magnificent virtues displayed throughout human history. Every hue a unique fabric of His roles.
But surely there must be something else that I can liken Him to. Ah! Let me look to His own words. Did He not liken His Kingdom to a pearl of great value (Matthew 13:45-46)? Then surely the King of such a kingdom must Himself be the priceless Pearl of pure beauty. He is surely the greatest treasure to come forth from the sea of Divinity. Turn this Pearl every way in the light of His Father's glory and you shall find Him glisten with the consistent radiance of His purity. How must His bride: the church, be amazed that her wedding ring possesses such a priceless piece of jewellery!
How beautiful He is! Oh Lord! If all I had was this life to know Him and then death like an eternal sleep... I would bless you for the inestimable honour of having known Christ. But I praise and thank you that this is not so. For those who have chosen to follow you will have an eternity to breathe in your fragrance afresh, bask in the radiance of your glory anew, and behold Your face like the sun shining in its strength forevermore (Revelation 1:16
)!
